Do I need to book a DOC hut in advance?
For Great Walk huts, yes, especially in the October to April season when they sell out weeks ahead. Backcountry huts on non-Great Walk tracks are more flexible and often first-come, but they still fill up over the summer school holidays, so book ahead if your dates are fixed.
Is the Whakarewarewa Living Māori Village worth it if I've already done a commercial hangi elsewhere?
It's worth it if what you want is the living-village context, real residents, a real thermal-powered kitchen, rather than a staged show. If the hangi meal itself is the whole draw, a commercial dinner-and-show package elsewhere in Rotorua is usually cheaper and includes more entertainment.
When can I actually find roadside fruit stalls?
