We name the popular choice, make the honest case for it, then make the honest case for the quieter alternative, and land on an actual verdict. Does Skip That, Do This mean never do the popular option?

No. Every piece argues the popular choice fairly first, Milford Sound's cruise, Hobbiton, the Tekapo church, before making the case for the alternative. The Milford vs Doubtful piece is honest that Milford is still the right call for most people on a tight schedule; the verdict changes depending on how much time and money you've actually got, not a blanket "skip it."

There are two Hobbiton pieces, how do I pick between them?

Hobbiton vs. Rangiriri is for deciding whether to do Hobbiton at all, it makes the case for a cheaper, lower-key regional history stop instead if the film-set price tag isn't worth it to you. Hobbiton Crowds, Do Te Matua Ngahere is for people already doing Hobbiton, it adds a 35-minute detour to a 4,000-year-old kauri tree with none of the 600,000-visitors-a-year crowd. Read the first if you're deciding whether to go; read the second if you've already booked and want somewhere quieter to add on.

Both Tekapo pieces are about the same town, what's actually different between them?

Tekapo Church vs. Mt John is about what to do inside Tekapo itself on a single afternoon, the famous church versus the observatory hill with the better view and no queue. Lake Tekapo, Do Aoraki Village is a bigger decision, whether to add a whole extra 70-minute leg to Aoraki/Mount Cook village rather than stop at Tekapo's photo spots.
